What is involved in the daily work of a chemist?

I was thinking very seriously about becoming a chemist, but I'm still not 100% sure about what exactly it entails. Is there a lot of maths involved? Which would be better to study at Leaving Certificate level, Biology or Physics (I have to do Chemistry)? Will there be jobs in this in the future, I'm thinking from around 2019 on. Thanks for your time!
